Based on my research, the upside-down sticker you’re referring to is most likely the Washington State outline sticker, and drivers display it upside-down for several meaningful reasons:
Why Drivers Display the Upside-Down Washington Sticker:
1. Humor & Lightheartedness
Some people flip the sticker to show they’re from Washington but don’t take themselves too seriously—it’s a playful way to display state pride with a sense of humor

2. Symbol of Being Away From Home
For those who have moved away from Washington (especially far away), the upside-down sticker serves as a visual symbol of being “turned around” or disconnected from home. It’s particularly popular among expatriates and those living in other states or countries

3. Conversation Starter
Many people intentionally flip the sticker because it creates conversation opportunities. As one Reddit user noted, “People always ask me why my sticker is upside-down. It gives me a reason to talk about home”
