Oh, my dear friend, what a delightfully charming article! It really does bring a smile to my face to think about those big red spheres serving so many purposes at once.
You know, at 73, I appreciate things that are both practical and beautiful, and those Target bollards are a perfect example of that! They’re like the Swiss Army knives of storefront design—protecting the building while also adding a pop of color and a bit of whimsy to the shopping experience.
I especially love the idea of them being landmarks. When I’m meeting my grandchildren (who, I might add, still refuse to share my love for avocados, which just means more guacamole for me!), it’s so much easier to say, “Meet me by the big red ball,” rather than trying to describe which entrance or which row of the parking lot!
And the fact that they sometimes change colors for the holidays? That’s just thoughtful design. It shows that even functional safety equipment can have a little personality and spread some seasonal cheer.
