[The Investigation of Silence]

Part Two of the Story… 👇

The heavy oak doors of the hospital room seemed to muffle the storm raging outside, but inside, the atmosphere had shifted from despair to cold, calculated resolve. Marcus Reed stood frozen near the foot of the bed, his hands gripping the metal railing of the medical cart. He looked at Richard Holloway, a man he had known only as a quiet, declining patient, and saw something entirely different in the industrialist’s sharp, piercing eyes—a formidable mind refusing to go down without a fight.

“Mr. Holloway, you can’t be serious,” Marcus whispered, glancing nervously toward the hallway. “A will revision? And… involving me?”

“I am entirely serious, Marcus,” Richard replied, his voice raspy yet carrying an undeniable authority. “You need two point four million dollars for Ava’s surgery. The doctors gave me five days. My wife thinks she has already won. But she made a fatal mistake. She told me what she’s been giving me every night.”

Marcus swallowed hard. “What do you mean?”

“Every evening, without fail, Natalie brings me a custom herbal tea blend she insists is formulated to soothe my condition,” Richard explained, his jaw tightening. “For months, I trusted her implicitly. But tonight, right before she gloated about Malibu and her new Porsche, she asked if I remembered what she brought me every night. She slipped up, Marcus. She practically confessed to poisoning me slowly under the guise of care.”

A chill ran down Marcus’s spine. “Poison? Mr. Holloway, if that’s true, we need to call the police right now. We need toxicology tests!”

“And what do you think the hospital staff would say if a dying man with multi-organ failure claims his devoted wife is poisoning him?” Richard countered bitterly. “They would call it delirium. Natalie is clever. She has cultivated the image of a grieving, attentive spouse for four years. If I accuse her now without irrefutable proof, the local police will dismiss it as the paranoid ramblings of a terminal patient, and her high-priced divorce lawyers—or probate attorneys—will tear any hasty accusation apart before the coroner even signs my death certificate.”
