[The Glacial Betrayal]

Three days after the heavily publicized memorial service, the heavy oak doors of our downtown mansion swung wide open during a catered gathering of elite socialites. Gretchen was pouring champagne for guests in the living room, whispering about how she planned to redecorate the entire estate within the month. Brandon was holding a crystal glass, accepting condolences from business associates while smirking behind their backs at his newfound freedom. The room fell into an eerie, suffocating silence as the front doors clicked shut with a sharp, echoing sound. Every head turned toward the entryway, expecting a late guest or a catering delivery.

Instead, I stepped across the threshold wearing a sharp ivory trench coat, my posture completely upright and my eyes locked directly onto my husband’s pale face. I held my baby carrier firmly in my arms while two federal marshals and my father’s chief legal counsel flanked my sides 🚪. Brandon dropped his crystal glass, shattering it against the imported marble floor as the color drained entirely from his skin. Gretchen gasped, clutching her pearls in sheer terror as if she were staring directly at a ghost rising from the frozen earth. “Surprise, darling,” I said smoothly, my voice cutting through the stunned silence of the room like a razor blade. “I heard you were throwing a party in my honor, and I simply couldn’t miss it.”
